Standard 7
Teachers are able to plan different kinds of lessons.

The teacher organizes and plans systematic instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, pupils, the community, and curriculum goals.

Evidence 1: EDT 672 – Final Blueprint

Rationale 1: The final blueprint that I created for the class ‘Teaching Online’ is a good example of this standard as I took a course that I used to teach called “Introduction to Computers” and redid into a hybrid class of traditional teaching and online. I renamed the class “Computers & Society”. When I did this I had to look at parts of my old class and find learning objects that could be done online to replace some of the things I did face-to-face. I also completely replaced some of the things I did and brought in new things such that involved the use of computers even more than before.

I had been planning to update this class for a couple of years and this class (EDT 672) allowed me to do that. I was able to find many things online for the students to use: learning objects, discussion boards, video, review quiz games and more.

KSD

7.K.2 The teacher knows how to take contextual considerations (instructional materials; individual student interests, needs, and aptitudes; and community resources) into account when planning instruction that creates an effective bridge between curriculum goals and students’ experiences

When recreating this class, I took in account that the students I am teaching are ‘digital natives’ and I really wanted to make a class that would appeal to them more. These students are on computers more than any students I have taught in the past so I needed to use the online tools available to better reach the students.

7.S.2 The teacher plans for learning opportunities that recognize and address variation in learning styles, learning differences, and performance modes

Not all students learn the same way so by offering many different online tools as well as some traditional face-to-face should hopefully reach all students’ learning styles.

7.D.2 The teacher believes that plans must always be open to adjustment and revision based on student needs and changing circumstances.

I am always trying to adjust this class so it best meets the needs of the students. The revamping of this course shows that and as the case of any computer course, I am always trying to keep up with the newest technology and stay ahead of the students. Also I have taught this course so far, I have written down what has worked and what needs to changed or tweaked in order to make it better.
